Turkish police detained 14 suspected Daesh terrorists who were preparing an attack in Ankara ahead of this weekend's elections, a security source told Anadolu Agency on Friday.
Counter-terror squad police in the capital swooped on various addresses in simultaneous raids and took the suspects, all foreign nationals, to police headquarters for questioning, said the source, who asked not to be named due to restrictions on speaking to the media.
More than 300 people have lost their lives in Daesh-claimed attacks in Turkey so far, where the terror organization has targeted civilians in suicide bomb, rocket and gun attacks, including an attack on a nightclub in Istanbul on Jan. 1, 2017, in which 39 people were killed and a bombing in the city's historic heart that killed 12 in 2016.
Turkish security forces have been involved in a long-running campaign to thwart Daesh attacks.
