Turkish is set to play an important role in rebuilding Syria, said Kerem Alkin, head of the Turkish Exporters’ Assembly (TIM).
Consequently, Turkish exporters of building materials should be on a constant look out for opportunities, Alkin said, according to Dünya newspaper.
President Donald Trump said this week he’ll pull out remaining U.S. troops from Syria, a move welcomed by President Vladimir Putin as contributing to peace-building efforts.
Turkey, a NATO member, is also a partner with Russia and Iran in the Astana process, which seeks to resolve the Syria conflict and build lasting peace in the country.
While Turkey’s government is against Syrian President Bashar al Assad remaining leader post-conflict, it has softened its tone of late and is seeking ways to boost exports to avert a protracted economic downturn. The economy shrank 1.1 percent on a quarterly basis in the three months to September after a currency crisis peaked in August.
