The World Bank Group has announced plans to establish a second shared services centre in Sofia, Bulgaria to provide back office corporate and technology support to the group’s internal business operations around the globe.
The centre will complement an existing World Bank Group shared services centre in Chennai, India which opened in 2001 and currently serves the organisation with accounting, HR, IT and other services. It is expected to be in operation by mid-2019 and will help the organisation to allocate its resources more effectively in support of its mission to end extreme poverty and boost shared prosperity.
According to Invest Sofia, thrеe countries were in direct competition during the World Bank’s due diligence process: Bulgaria, Serbia and Croatia. The decision to place the centre in Sofia was the result of a competitive search for a location based on a broad number of criteria including value for money/cost savings and the quality of the IT infrastructure and talent pool.
