Deputy Secretary General from the Center for ‘One Belt One Road’ in Chinese Academy of Social Science, Mr. Xu Wenhong, talked exclusively to Eurasia Diary.
Eurasia Diary: Please explain briefly the initiative and objectives of your Center for ‘One Belt One Road’?
Mr. Xu Wenhong: This center appeared in 2015 just after the Chinese President Xi Jinping put an initiative of One Belt, One Road. He talked about the economic belt road around the Silk Road. Silk Road means exchange, business and cooperation. In the peaceful environment people around the Silk Road could have better cooperation and better exchanges for capitals, labors and goods. We can provide more working opportunities and business chances. This is state level initiative, we want closer cooperation with our neighbors with our friends in every fields, especially in political, mutual understanding, goods exchange, connection of transport and connection in infrastructure and financial cooperation. China with its own capital and its own resources wants to help other people to get free trade. We want our friends to be developed together with China. Better life means more capabilities for Chinese development. We want to build a community of common destiny to share upcoming risks and profits.
Eurasia Diary: How you will target proper countries and markets, what is the plan of china?
Mr. Xu Wenhong: This initiative is just a beginning; we want other people to know about our idea and its direction. We want other people to understand us and be agreed to cooperate. Then, we want to launch new initiative for which we can provide more financial resources from china to other participants. It is not one side project just for China and we want others to join us.
Eurasia Diary: What is the basic objective of your Center?
Mr.Xu Wenhong: We want to interpret the strategical plan of the initiative of our president. We want to let other peoples to know our target. We want to provide Chinese goods. On the political level we want others to get the mutual understanding and this is number one task of our institute.
Eurasia Diary: Besides of economic aspects of this project, what is the benefits for Chinese culture in other countries participants?
Mr. Xu Wenhong: Together with our friends we want to have common development, provide our capabilities to others for better life there. This is China dream.
Eurasia Diary: Do you think other western countries like USA, have any problems with One belt one road?
Mr. Xu Wenhong: Yes. Some western countries this is a new type of colonialism. But we believe after close connection and explanation we will end the true meaning of this initiative. When they understand better our goal they would like to establish the connections with china.
Eurasia Diary: How you see recently G20 in china in relation with One Belt One Road?
Mr. Xu Wenhong: G20 is a good opportunity for china to explain to our guests about this initiative. There were many foreign guests. With this summit chine demonstrated the real willing to cooperate.
Eurasia Diary: How you see Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB), will this bank have some push to One Belt One Road?
Mr. Xu Wenhong: Definitely. According to the statistics of this bank, only Asian region in the next 7 decades will only in the field of infrastructure will have a large demand of the capital. Once this bank established it will provide 100 billion US dollars. With this capital it will provide good opportunities to Asian countries.
Eurasia Diary: China has very clear policy for eradication of terrorism. On the silk road there are multiple conflicts. Definitely there are some frozen and active conflicts. How china will tackle these challenges?
Mr. Xu Wenhong: China want the solution of all conflicts through peaceful communication and means. On the Silk Road of course china will help and facilitate the countries to resolve all these conflicts.
Eurasia Diary: Do you think that the western media and countries have double standards for the third world?
Mr.Xu Wenhong: At present, western media is the main media for many people. We understand that. Sometime they get some information biased and we believe that with the progress of internet people will get more information from china. China’s voice will be heard worldwide.
Eurasia Diary: How much are you optimistic about One Belt One Road project and how soon it can be completed?
Mr. Xu Wenhong: This initiative is a top level initiative that one part of china’s dream. It lasted for a long time. This is a willing of Chinese people. We are peaceful. China is a great contributor to world community. We want other to be development. We want to have common development. We want to work with other friends.
