The famous Georgian journalist and the public figure Gela Vasadze talked exclusively to Eurasia Diary, International Analytical Information Gateway, regarding upcoming parliamentary elections in Georgia.
Eurasia Diary: We would like to know your opinion on the upcoming parliamentary elections in Georgia. What do you think who are the favorite ones?
Gela Vasadze: In my opinion as you are aware of that there are two favorites on these elections. One of them is -"The Georgian dream" party which is leading the power in Georgia, and the second one is “United National Movement” party, as you know the leader of this party is Mikheil Saakashvili. Actually, these two political forces are powerful enough and I think they have no competitors. Also, there are still majority districts. In majority districts a lot of things will be solved by an administrative resource and money. Eventually, everything depends on voters and their interests. It means that everything depends on what actually voters want in Georgia.
Sandra Roelofs, who is the wife of the former president Mikheil Saakashvili belongs to "National movement" party as well. She is dominant figure of party and posses enough popularity as well.
Prominent political scientist, the former deputy of the MFA Elena Hoshtariya, well-known diplomat Salome Samadashvili, the founder of Association of Azerbaijani an students of Georgia , Samir Ismailov, and the former ombudsman of Georgia Tugushi are members of “UND” party.
Undoubtedly Georgy Kvirikashvili is from “Georgian Dream” party.
The president of Football federation of Georgia, , Levan Kobiashvili , a musician from the popular group “Vakis Parki”, Zaza Hutsishvili, famous football player Mikhail Kavelashvili. and Georgy Mosidze who is the from the intellectual game "What? Where? When?" are the members of “UNM” party as well.
Eurasia Diary: How do you evaluate the situation in Georgia about of Mikheil Saakashvili? Can he become the head of state again?
Gela Vasadze: Mikheil Saakashvili is not going to leave the Georgian policy. But he won't become the president because there is no sense, we have already parliamentary republic.
Eurasia Diary: Is he able to lead the country in case of a victory United National Movement on elections?
Gela Vasadze: Perhaps, but not now. Due to the reason that he has now some political projects in Ukraine as well.
