The prominent Armenian human rights activists Vage Avetyan’s sudden appearance became the biggest sensation of Sunday. Avetyan who currently resides in Sweden is a political immigrant and zealous critic of Sargsyan’s regime. Furthermore, he is one of few Armenian human rights activists who publicly apologize for Khojaly genocide. He resides on the Baku airport’s territory at the moment. Azerbaijani authorities haven’t decided on a visa issuance to the unexpected visitor yet.
-You are in the airport at the moment?
-Yes.
-You are on the neutral zone? How do they treat you? Are they provide with food or tea?
-Yes, I am on the neutral zone. They regale me today but mostly I buy it by myself.
- Do you have Sweden or Armenian citizenship?
-I have both of them. Each of them permits dual citizenship.
-As you wrote on your Facebook page earlier, you were met by representatives of Azerbaijan secret services. Are they refused to let you in the country? How did they explain their motives?
-Border guards apprised me that I need visa to get into the country. They have contacted someone but got rejected. Special services arrived at the afternoon. After the conversation with them I believe that I will be allowed to enter the city. However, I am still on the airport territory.
-How long are you planning to stay in Baku?
-I’ll be here tomorrow as well and then fly to Frankfurt early in the morning on October 11.
-Do you have a plan holding press-conference or making a statement? What is your main message to Azerbaijan?
-No, I’m not going to do as I didn’t before.
-Is it a peace action that you are in Azerbaijan?
-I promised to participate in TV program with Mehriban Qasimova once I reach Baku. Nevertheless, I arrive suddenly while she is on a vacation as I guess. Actually, I wasn’t targeted public appearances on this trip. It doesn’t even an action. In a manner of speaking, it’s just trip for me where I want to lay flowers at the memorial of Khojaly victims.
- Do you understand that you will be proclaimed as a betrayer in Yerevan as Vaan Martirosyan?
-Where can I be today if I care about Armenian scoundrels and corrupt mass media?
-Thereby, are you sure that our people can live in peace and agreement?
-They have no another option. There are never two neighbor nations that cannot avoid from war. All European nations are the real example of that. Sooner or later, our nations will come to peace too. Hi, all Azerbaijanis! I’ll be here anyway, no matter they will not let me get into the city or not. Please, lay bouquet of flowers at the memorial of Khojaly victims on my behalf. I’ll do it by myself next time. I love you. Wish you peace at your home!
