Arison Tamfu is  a multi-award winning journalist based in Central African country, Cameroon. He was awarded Finalist of CNN Multichoice African Journalist of the Year Awards in Kenya; 2014, Overall Winner (Print Category) in the African Climate Change and Environmental Reporting Awards in Kenya; 2013,winner of CTA (the Technical Center for Agricultural and Rural Cooperation ACP-EU) Media Competition in Rwanda ; 2011, winner of the Radio for Peacebuilding Africa Awards ( RFPA) Awards: Youth Category in Senegal and 2010, winner of Best Political Show and so on. Arison Tamfu talked exclusively to Eurasia Diary from Cameroon about the international and regional development in Central Africa region.

Eurasia Diary: How do you see the current situation in the Cameroon and Central Africa which you have been covering last couple of week’s .Can you please explain something about this?

 Arison Tamfu: We consist the fact that terrorism is main the problem. The government has been doing every possible thing to diminish the number of terrorist acts in different parts of the countries like Nigeria, Niger, and Chad. So far in the last month Boko Haram released some of the Chibouk girls that were kidnapped in Nigeria about 3 years ago. This negotiation took place also at the border between Cameroon and Nigeria. Because of this crisis there has been extremely influx of migrants, refugees coming from Central Africa, Nigeria and Chad to Cameroon. The United Nations estimated that more than one thousand refugees are in Cameroon now and they are living in very precarious conditions.  

Eurasia Diary: Why did it take so long, almost three years to recover abducted and kidnapped girls?

 Arison Tamfu: The government is pleading that it was difficult because the leaders of Boko   Haram are procreative enough. According to the information from the original sources, the government of Nigeria has finally accepted to release some of the Boko Haram militants, in this case for Chibouk girls. This is very difficult to make decision according to government sources. Because media neutralizes Boko Haram and also releasing of some of the militants, but shows people who join it. A group is all over world adding to more chance to join this terrorist group.

Eurasia Diary: What about the relations between the people and Boko Haram? Are they still strengthening or they are going to be weak?

Arison Tamfu: Actually in the last month, Cameroon, Nigeria, Chad and Niger are quiet places.  It seems that Boko Haram must be weakened comparatively. The reports indicated that the tribe is facing problems of ammunition and equally feeding some of the militants. On the top of this dissension must be coming from different parts of the government of terrorist people. Many young people decided to join the group and it is something wrong to do. Especially when you come from the religious aligns. As a result of that there has been drastic reduction in the activities of the terrorist group. The governments of Niger, Nigeria and Chad are founding a coalition in order to fight Boko Haram from different directions .That is very difficult for the responsible groups.

 Eurasia Diary: How do you see the migrant crisis?  How does this migrant crisis affect the country and the borders?

 Arison Tamfu: As I indicated before many people came to Cameroon. People who cross the border can be attacked coming from Boko Haram .They were especially attacked on the border in Nigeria, Chad, Cameroon and Niger. Many of the people are residing in Cameroon. This is very precarious especially for the children of the migrant community. They are facing some difficulties in feeding. Sometimes, even the basic necessity such as drinking water is not available. Cameroonian government is complaining that the responsibility is very high and government is not ready to supply food completely.

UN is coming to Cameroon and this organization is also complaining that they do not have enough means to feed all the refuges that are now residing in Cameroon. One of the major problems with refugees is accommodation. They come from different regions of country .They are unable to accommodate more than one thousand refugees and more than thousand refugees are  internally displaced persons .Of course, this  problem the death of   roughly more than 100 refugees on the side of Cameroon. This problem leaded to the situation when more than one hundred refugees died on the side of Cameroon.
