Presidential candidate Ebrahim Raeisi said on Friday that elections in Iran are held according to the law and all people should respect and concede to the election results.
He told reporters after casting his vote in the ongoing presidential and local elections. The presidential candidate referred to the political, economic, scientific and cultural aspect of elections in Iran and said that massive turnout of people will demonstrate Iran’s power to the world.
According to reports, over 56 million of Iranians are eligible to go to the polls. Out of the total eligible voters over 1.3 million are those who vote for the first time. Polling stations for the 12th presidential election and the fifth city and village councils elections are open from 8am until 6pm local time (3:30am to 1:30pm GMT) although authorities have announced that the country's 63,500 polling stations could extend their voting time if necessary.
The presidential candidates include President Hassan Rouhani, Custodian of the Imam Reza (AS) Holy Shrine Ebrahim Raeisi, former minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance Mostafa Aqa Mirsalim and former minister of Physical Education Mostafa Hashemi Taba.
