Azerbaijan Presidential Election Process was Seamless - British Election Observers

Azerbaijan Presidential election process was seamless, and people were participating in the voting without any problems.  British Delegation Observed Presidential electoral process at polling stations in Baku on 11 April 2018.
 
In response to a question at the post-election press conference held at the Hilton Hotel in centre of Baku Lord Evan said something like: ‘I visited polling stations yesterday and process was great’.
 
David Morris (MP) British Member of Parliament said something like: ‘I visited poling stations and witnessed the poling process and it was fine’.
 
Dr Shahid Qureshi, British journalist and political analyst said: ‘I visited eight polling stations with the delegation and witnessed the electoral process which was seamless. People were voting without obstruction in the presence of local observers and local media channels’.
 
President Ilham Aliyev won the presidential election with large majority as expected. There were street parties and celebration by the supporter of President Ilham Aliyev all over the country.
 
Presidential election poling started early morning on Wednesday, 11 April 2018. There were eight candidates in the contest including the sitting president who called for early elections.
 
President Ilham Aliyev has led the country since 2003, when he succeeded his father. After 2013 election in Azerbaijan’s Constitution has been amended to extend the presidential term from five to seven years.
 
British delegation of election observers consists of Lord Evans, Conservative Party MP David Morris and Dr Shahid Qureshi, Journalist and Political analyst.
