Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the State of Palestine to Azerbaijan Nasser Abdul Kareem visited the office of the International Eurasia Press Fund (IEPF) and met with its President Umud Mirzayev.
Umud Mirzayev thanked the ambassador for his visit. At the meeting, he informed Nassir Abdel Kerim about the current work of the Fund and about a number of projects implemented in cooperation with local and international organizations, such as UNDP, UNICEF, UNHCR, UNEP and etc. The President of the Fund also stressed the organization’s activities in the frontline regions of Azerbaijan, aimed at work with refugees and internally displaced persons (IDPs).
“Our organization has always supported initiatives aimed at working with young people and developing the young generation. For several years, in cooperation with UNICEF, IEPF is successfully implementing the Azerbaijan Youth Advocacy Program AYAP, aimed at youth development in the war-affected regions of Azerbaijan.
In 2006, we supported the creation and development of Baku International Students Club (BISC), which unites foreign students studying in Azerbaijan. It creates a platform for their joint activities aimed at integration of intergovernmental, intercultural and moral values,” Umud Mirzayev said.
He also noted the active participation of the citizens of Palestine in the recent Welcoming reception, which brought together about 100 students, organized by BISC in the IEPF office.
In turn, Nasser Abdul Kareem thanked Umud Mirzaev for the invitation to visit the office. He noted the importance of the work that the Fund is doing, especially its activity with IDPs and youth. The ambassador expressed readiness to provide all possible support in the future.
“The job that you are doing within this organization with IDPs it is humanistic and very important. As Palestinians, we understand what it means to be IDPs and refugees, as you may know, more than half of our population is refugees and IDPs”, the ambassador said.
The Palestinian Ambassador to Azerbaijan also noted that a few years ago not so many people knew about Azerbaijan but now more and more people hear about this country and this is not a small merit of youth organizations. He noted that young people strive to make a special contribution to the idea of peace promotion.
“I always encourage students from Palestine to be active whenever they have free time. Of course, first of all, they should study well for themselves, for their family, for their future and, accordingly, for their country. But, on the other hand, such activity will also help them to learn more about Azerbaijan, the culture and traditions of this country.
Students’ life is the most beautiful time in the life of everyone. This is the time when they develop and mature their ideas, come up with notions and impressions about certain things. Since these foreign students live here, their memories about Azerbaijan and the people who live here will be forever imprinted in their memory,” Palestinian Ambassador said.
At the end of the meeting, a joint photo was taken with the staff of the International Eurasia Press Fund.
