Spokesperson for the Palestinian government, Yousef al-Mahmoud, said on Saturday that any steps by any parties taken outside the framework of the Palestinian Liberation Organization (PLO) within or outside Palestine are meaningless.
Al-Mahmoud said in a statement, “The PLO is the sole legitimate representative of the Palestinian people, and any attempt to override this fact by any party would be in favor of the new colonial schemes that target the Palestinian cause, our Arab homeland and the interests and capabilities of our people.”
Earlier, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas’ Fatah movement described a US-sponsored conference in Warsaw as a “conspiracy intended to liquidate the Palestinian cause.”
Osama al-Qawasmi, member of Fatah Revolutionary Council and its spokesperson, said “The Warsaw conspiracy aims at liquidating the Palestinian cause and is an American-Israeli attempt to pass the deal of shame and to spread ideas not acceptable to anyone other than those who are traitors to Jerusalem, Al-Aqsa and the Holy Sepulcher.”
The United States called for a conference in Warsaw, scheduled to open on Wednesday, on the Middle East, including the Palestinian cause.
The PLO, which cut all ties with the US Trump administration since its recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital in December 2017, has denounced it as a conspiracy to end Palestinian rights in Jerusalem, independence, statehood and return of refugees to their homes seized in 1948.
