The panic is felt in Armenian authority. Three main figures in Armenia confused in their statements. They are Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, his wife Anna Hakopyan and Defence Minister Tonoyan. Eurasia Diary represents you the chronical order of the statements by both sides.
Firstly, Armenian Defence Minister Davit Tonoyan stated that Armenia will start to occupy new lands during the Vienna meeting of Armenian and Azerbaijanian leaders on 29 March.
After Tonoyan's statement, Pashinyan defends his Minister. Pashinyan said, “If Davit Tonoyan had made other statement, I would have fired him from the post of the minister," Pashinyan told.
After such statements, Azerbaijan counter-attacked Armenian authority. The launch of large-scale military drills and the statement of Azerbaijani FM Elmar Mammadyarov and Azerbaijani Defence Minister Zakir Hasanaov can be considered the answer to Armenian actions.
During the aeroplane Armenian journalist took an interview by Mammadyarov, he explained the overall situation on Nagorno Karabakh. The territory of my country is occupied by Armenian soldiers. Why is Armenia's soldier serving on Azerbaijan's territory?” Elmar Mammadyarov said on 4 April.
"Those who don't reach agreement with me, will have to reach agreement with Zakir Hasanov," Mammadyarov said on 6 April.
Military exercises should be aimed at conducting large-scale offensive operations, Azerbaijani Defense Minister Zakir Hasanov said following the statement on the same day.
Armenian war threats faced the same way by Azerbaijani side. In the result of these "word game" Armenia stepped back. It should be noted that Pashinyan was called to Armenian Parliament for discussion of the Vienna meeting.
“We don’t want war, and the military-political leadership of Azerbaijan should prepare its army for peace,” Armenian Defense Minister David Tonoyan said on 7 April.
"Thousands of Armenian soldiers lost their lives in Nagorno-Karabakh for naught," Anna Hakobyan, the wife of Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, said on 8 April.
Armenian PM Nikol Pashinyan attempted to "explain" his wife's statement. "The essence of what was said is as follows that the Azerbaijani soldiers, who are attacking NK [Nagorno-Karabakh] borders by the order of their authorities are falling for nothing because those attacks of theirs do not change anything in the situation of the Karabakh conflict," Pashinyan told on 9 April.
He also stated “Armenia is telling Azerbaijan not to intimidate the country with war because we are not afraid of war. Armenia is the first country to support a resolution of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict exclusively through peaceful talks. We are not preparing to launch a military operation against anyone, but in case of war, we will impose peace."
Prosperous Armenia Party (PAP) Chairman and head of its National Assembly Gagik Tsarukyan expressed dissatisfaction of Vienna meeting. “It’s obscure to us,” Tsarukyan said.
It is a very confusing situation that Armenian officials made contradicting statements. This is an indicator of chaos in Armenian authority. Now, it is not surprising to hear such chaotic statements.
