Uzbekistan's President Shavkat Mirziyoyev will personally control the implementation of 27 major strategic projects worth 3.6 billion U.S. dollars in foreign investment in 2019, president's press service said on Tuesday, Xinhua reported.
Mirziyoyev proposed introducing a new system to control the development of the projects involving foreign direct investments and international financial institutions during a government meeting.
"It is necessary to establish strong ties with foreign investors who have expressed a desire to work in Uzbekistan and help them from the beginning to the end of the project, in other words, to lead them by the hand and ensure the result," Mirziyoyev was quoted as saying.
The Uzbek government's Investment Program for 2019 plans to implement 3,200 projects worth 14 billion dollars.
President Mirziyoyev has been carrying out a range of economic reforms to make the Central Asian country attractive to foreign investors since he came to power in 2016.
Uzbekistan plans to reform civil legislation, drafts of the necessary documents and a code should be submitted to the government before April 1, 2020, Trend reported.
To further improve the code, it is planned to attract representatives of academia and civil society institutions, as well as foreign experts.
