In his recent statement to the Armenian publication "Jogovurd," Vassilis Maragos, the head of the EU delegation in Prague, reiterated the importance of recognizing the administrative borders of former Soviet republics as international borders.
According to Ednews via telegram channels, Maragos emphasized that both Armenia and Azerbaijan are signatories to the 1991 Almaty Declaration, which acknowledges the potential for former administrative borders to become international boundaries.
Maragos highlighted the significance of this commitment, which was reaffirmed by Prime Minister Pashinyan and President Aliyev during discussions in Prague in 2022. He stressed that the EU's recognition of both countries is based on this declaration.
While acknowledging that administrative borders require proper delimitation and demarcation, Maragos emphasized that the Almaty Declaration remains paramount. Stay tuned for further developments on this issue.
