ADA University played host to the "Climate-Water Summit" today, drawing attention to the pressing global issue of water scarcity exacerbated by climate change, Ednews reports.
Vice-Rector Fariz Ismayilzade of ADA University set the tone for the conference, stressing the imperative for unified action in addressing water scarcity as one of the paramount challenges of our time. With Azerbaijan gearing up to host COP29, Ismayilzadeh underscored the importance of scientists collaborating with policymakers to combat climate change effectively.
Echoing Ismayilzade's sentiments, Akbar Asgarov, Deputy Head of the National Hydrometeorological Service of the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources, highlighted the adverse impact of climate change on water resources, citing a 15 percent decrease in Azerbaijan's water reservoirs.
The significance of COP29 being held in Azerbaijan was emphasized by Dogan Başaran, Chairman of the "Sustainable Future Commission," who praised President Ilham Aliyev's leadership in environmental policy, marking a historic first for a Turkish state hosting such a summit.
Members of Parliament, Jeyhun Mammadov and Jala Ahmadova, reiterated Azerbaijan's commitment to global climate action, positioning climate change policy as a top priority.
