Two students from the United States of America James Mackes and Richie Hennessey, who traveled through frontline regions of Azerbaijan on 1st of June 2017, are still under the impression by their trip and meeting with refugees and Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs). Eurasia Diary reports that it was mentioned in the electronic letter sent by James Mackes to the President of International Eurasia Press Fund (IEPF) Umud Mirzayev.
In this e-mail, James Mackes expresses his big gratitude to Umud Mirzayev for the invitation to the frontline regions of Azerbaijan and for familiarizing with the situation there.
“I am not sure if you remember me, but two summers ago I met you invited my friend Richie Hennessey and me to accompany you to the Terter region for International Children's Day. It was the highlight of my internship in Azerbaijan, and your generosity made it happen”, James Mackes said.
Mackes also mentioned that since that time he was following the activity of the IEPF.
“It has been a long time since I have seen you, and I hope you are doing well. I have been following IEPF, and it has been good to see how much work the organization has done in order to make the Terter region a livable place again”, he wrote.
James Mackes is willing to bring more students from the Covenant College in the USA, where he is studying, to IEPF for the summer as interns. He affirms that learned a lot from his time in Azerbaijan and wants other American students to have the same experience while assisting the IEPF in their work as interns.
“Again, I am so grateful to you for inviting Richie and me on the trip to the Terter region for International Children's Day and for teaching us so much about your country. If possible, I want to help bring other American students to learn more about Azerbaijan and to assist the IEPF in its work”, Mackes concluded.
It is necessary to mention that the trip was organized by the International Eurasia Press Fund (IEPF) for International Children's Day (1st of June). During this trip, the students visited a school in Shikharkh village and the settlement in Hasangaya village of Terter region and participated in the campaign to deliver presents to children.
Important to mention that soon after their trip, James Mackes and Richie Hennessey, shared their thoughts on the trip to Azerbaijan and life on the frontline on their blog.
