As part of the cultural promotion activities of this Embassy, the traditional posadas were held in the facilities of School number 6, located in Baku, as part of the Cultural Day, organized by this educational institution and dedicated to the presentation of cultural samples of different countries in the world.
During the inauguration of the event, the Ambassador of Mexico to Azerbaijan, Rodrigo Labardini intervened with a speech with which he presented various data on Mexico, its culture and traditions, in particular on posadas, a festivity celebrated every year on the eve of Christmas.
The celebration of the posadas in a Mexican tradition that has its origin in the times of the Colony and is dedicated to commemoration of the pilgrimage of Mary and Joseph to Bethlehem, before the birth of Jesus. The posadas are held from December 16 to 24 and consist of dividing the guests into two groups, one that represents Mary and Joseph and another, the people who will give them lodging or "posada". Both groups sing litanies, light candles and flares. After the chants, a piñata with 7 peaks is broken, each of which represents a capital sin. The breaking of the piñata means the victory over human temptations. To conclude the celebration, the guests taste typical Mexican food and drinks.
As part of the celebration, the students of School number 6, presented a Mexican dance and proceeded to break a piñata, a Mexican tradition that caught the attention of all participants.
