Hungary is one of the main direction for Azerbaijani students. Ministry of Education of Azerbaijan and Ministry of Human Resources of Hungary issued a program for scholarships between 2018-2020. Every year Hungary accepts 200 students from Azerbaijan by the program.
Samir Abbasov, an Azerbaijani Student studies in Hungary shared his opinions to Eurasia Diary.
He expressed his positive impressions about Hungary. Abbasov mentioned the Hungarian society which he observed during 3 years.
Abbasov compared Hungarian society as typical European societies for many features.
"Hungarians are very individual like many European nations. They don't so care much about what family, people say."
As we know Azerbaijan has high-level family values such as we like big families and keeping relations with relatives. Samir said that Hungarians prefer to live small families in contrast to us.
Samir also said that he didn't notice any antipathy by Hungarians during mentioning about the Hungarian's attitude to Azerbaijani.
"Generally, Hungarians has not special hatred to any other nations. They have some antipathy to only illegal migrants such as Arabs and some Africans."
Abbasov also talked about how much Hungarians know Azerbaijan. "I have travelled to many cities in Europe, and I have seen many people who don't know about Azerbaijan. In contrast to this, most of the people know about Azerbaijan in Hungary. Elders know us since Soviet times. I have seen many people who know Baku. They know us as a country with rich resources, friend to Turkey, the enemy to Armenia as we know Ramil Safarov's occasion happened here, between Russia and Iran and they also know us by many competitions."
He noticed some common features in culinary and language between Azerbaijan and Hungary. For example, mother in Azerbaijani is Ana in Hungary Anya, Beard-Saqqal- Sakkal, Father- Ata- Apa and etc.
"Some Hungarian thinks that it is due to the Ottoman Empire conquest and some thinks due to ancient historical roots. Some Hungarian recognize themselves as Turk but it is a small amount of Hungarians."
Samir Abbasov highly appreciated the attitude of Hungarians to him and Azerbaijan also. He shares positive memories about how they welcomed him.
