Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich ‘sanctions £70m bid’ for Alvaro Morata

The Real Madrid attacker has been widely linked with a move to United in recent weeks, after Jose Mourinho opted not to renew Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s contract.

However, Morata has now emerged as a key target for Chelsea, to replace fellow Spain international Diego Costa.

According to the Sunday Mirror, a £70m bid has been granted by owner Roman Abramovich.

The report claims that United have already agreed personal terms with the 24-year-old, but Chelsea are hoping to jump ahead in the race How did Morata compare to Costa this season?

Chances created – The Chelsea striker narrowly edged the number of opportunities made for teammates, with an average of 1.23 per 90 minutes in the league to Morata’s 1.14.

Goals – Real Madrid’s back-up centre-forward also dominates the strike rate, with an astonishing 1.01 goals per 90 minutes against the 0.58 of Costa.
