Manchester United have had a £91m bid for defender Kalidou Koulibaly rejected by Napoli, according to reports in Italy.
Italian newspaper Corriere dello Sport, as quoted by the Daily Express, is reporting that the Red Devils have tabled a £91m (€103m) offer to try and sign Senegal defender Koulibaly ahead of the January transfer window.
The same report claims that Jose Mourinho is a keen admirer of the 27-year-old defender as the Portuguese coach ponders bolstering his squad ahead of the January transfer window.
However, the article goes on to say that Napoli were quick to turn down the offer from the Red Devils, suggesting that it won’t be easy for them to sign him next year.
Indeed, the same story says that Napoli are “desperate” to keep hold of the defender ahead of the winter transfer window.
Meanwhile, Manchester United fell 16 points behind leaders Manchester City in the Premier League on Saturday after their 2-2 draw at Southampton.
The Red Devils, who finished second last season, will look to get back to winning ways in the top flight when they host Arsenal at Old Trafford on Wednesday night.
