The UEFA Champions League holders and UEFA Europa League winners, as well as six teams coming through qualifying, will also participate in the group stage.
Of the sides still competing in the 2018/19 edition, only Ajax and Porto are not in the frame for next season at the moment.
• Tussling for fourth in Spain, Getafe or Alavés would be in line to make their first appearance at any stage of the UEFA Champions League; neither have even played in the qualifiers, and both clubs total just two UEFA Cup/UEFA Europa League campaigns. Alavés made the final on their European debut in 2000/01; Getafe was the more recent of either to feature in 2010/11.
• Turkish frontrunners İstanbul Başakşehir could also be group stage debutants.
• German hopefuls Frankfurt have not appeared in Europe's elite competition since reaching the final of the European Champion Clubs' Cup in 1959/60.
• AC Milan would return to the group stage for the first time since 2013/14 when they lost to Atlético in the round of 16.
