President Trump said during a new interview that media coverage of his summit with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un is “almost treasonous.”
“First of all, we came to a wonderful agreement, it’s a shame the fake news covers it the way they do,” Trump told Mike Huckabee on the former Arkansas governor's TBN show. “It’s almost treasonous, you want to know the truth.”
He noted that North Korea had returned American hostages and agreed to return the remains of U.S. soldiers killed in the Korea War. The hostages were returned prior to the summit.
Trump also brought up North Korea’s commitment to denuclearize, in exchange for unspecified security guarantees from the U.S.
“If you listen to the mainstream media, it’s almost like I lost a negotiation,” Trump added.
The president has recently hit the media for its coverage of the summit with Kim, targeting the press in several tweets. He has frequently attacked the media as "fake news."

If President Obama (who got nowhere with North Korea and would have had to go to war with many millions of people being killed) had gotten along with North Korea and made the initial steps toward a deal that I have, the Fake News would have named him a national hero!

Trump faced some criticism earlier this year when he accused Democrats of “treasonous” behavior for not applauding his achievements during his first State of the Union address.
"Can we call that treason? Why not?" the president said during a speech. "They certainly didn't seem to love our country very much."
