Jurgen Klopp is giving Dejan Lovren every chance of proving his fitness for Liverpool's Champions League showdown against Bayern Munich.
Lovren hasn't featured since suffering a hamstring injury early on in the FA Cup third round defeat at Wolverhampton Wanderers on January 7.
The Croat didn't travel with the Reds squad for their warm-weather training camp in Marbella last week, with Klopp admitting he was planning without the centre-back for Tuesday's visit of Bayern in their Champions League round of 16 first leg tie.
But Lovren was at Melwood on Sunday with the Reds boss refusing to thus far rule out the player, although a place on the bench appears the more likely possibility.
“Dejan we will have to see,” said Klopp, who declared Gini Wijnaldum and Xherdan Shaqiri are available after recent issue.
“Yesterday we had a clearing session and after that we have to see how he reacted until today. That's the plan today, to be in proper training.
“Dejan, I actually have to wait minute by minute if there is a chance or not.
“If it's good then it will be another option.”
Fabinho is on standby to feature at centre-back having deputised in the role in the FA Cup tie against Wolves and the Premier League win at Brighton and Hove Albion five days later.
But Klopp believes keeping out Bayern will be the responsibility of the whole team.
“If he (Fabinho) has to play against Bayern Munich in the Champions League then it's not an easy job,” said the Liverpool manager.
“But it makes sense if we don't just let our four defenders defend against Bayern, it's about how we defend in general.
“There will be a lot of moments where we have to defend and we have worked on that. We respect quality of Bayern a lot, speed, technique and experience, it's all there what you need to be successful. We try to make the best of it.”
Liverpool skipper Jordan Henderson, who featured at right-back against Leicester City last month, is another possible option at centre-back should Lovren not be available.
And Henderson said: “Obviously I would be ready. When I spoke to the manager about playing full-back. it wasn't really a question of could I play there but would I be confident and ready to be able to play there.
“No matter what position I'm asked to play I'll be 100% ready whether that's centre-back or right-back. If I am asked to play centre-back then I'll be ready.”
Henderson missed the draw at West Ham United earlier this month and was only on the bench in the win over Bournemouth last time out.
But he added: “I feel good. Obviously before the West Ham game I had a slight problem but it was more precaution than anything.
"A good week's training, I feel very good, and I'm going into the game tomorrow as good as everybody else really.”
