Iran and Russia have inked a deal to construct the Rasht-Astara railway. The agreement was reached following a high-level meeting between Sergey Pavlov, the First Deputy General Director of Russian Railways, and Iran's Ambassador to Russia, Kazem Jalali, Ednews reports via Khazrinews.
The Rasht-Astara railway project holds strategic importance within the North-South international transport corridor, aiming to enhance connectivity and facilitate trade between the two nations and beyond.

Pavlov highlighted a substantial surge in container cargo transportation from the Eastern side through key stations, namely "Sarakhs" and "Inchekhborun," with a remarkable 400 percent increase in volume compared to the previous year.
