Executive Director of the Geneva Center for the Advancement of Human Rights and Global Dialogue, Ambassador Idriss Jazairy, talked to Eurasia Diary about the rapidly growing armaments that threat peace in the world.
The UN official, who thinks rapidly growing armaments as a danger, said that it is the result of the hegemony approach of some of the great powers and middle power states.
"This position is also based on the principle of solving the existing conflicts by force of arms, not of solving peacefully by negotiation between the parties. By the fact, this approach has proved to be a failure in the past. The world community has clearly witnessed it after the II World War," said the ambassador.
"We all hope for a peaceful settlement of the conflicts in the future, and we want to channel these huge amounts of expenditure on armaments into the development of nations in order to resolve existing conflicts among nations. We are currently in a very serious stage, multilateral cooperation is in danger, and individual initiatives are increasing and developing. We want government officials to meet together within the UN framework to find solutions to the existing problems. Conflicts between states are natural, but there is also a need for consultations between them» said Idriss Jazairy.
