A new round of political consultations between the Foreign Ministries of Azerbaijan and China has been held.
Elnur Mammadov, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan, has visited the People’s Republic of China.
According to a statement from the Azerbaijani Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA), on March 28, political consultations between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the People’s Republic of China took place in Beijing. The delegations were led by Deputy Minister Elnur Mammadov from Azerbaijan and Deputy Minister Liu Bin from China.
During the consultations, an in-depth exchange of views took place on cooperation in political, economic, trade, energy, green transition, digital development, transportation and logistics, education, culture, tourism, and other fields. The importance of high-level reciprocal visits and their positive impact on various areas bilateral relations was emphasized.
Within the framework of the discussions, the historical significance of the “Joint Declaration on the Establishment of a Strategic Partnership between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the People’s Republic of China” adopted during the meeting between President Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan and President Xi Jinping of China on July 3, 2024, was noted. The importance of this significant political document in strengthening strategic cooperation between the two states was highlighted.
Deputy Minister Elnur Mammadov provided detailed information on Azerbaijan’s peace agenda, the normalization process with Armenia, existing obstacles, reconstruction efforts, and investment projects in the liberated territories.
The parties also exchanged views on cooperation within the United Nations, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, and other international platforms, as well as regional issues and matters of mutual interest.
Additionally, Deputy Minister Elnur Mammadov met on March 27, 2025, with Chen Zou, Deputy Head of the International Cooperation Department of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China. During the meeting, the current state and prospects of bilateral relations were discussed. The mutual trust and friendship between the heads of state were particularly noted as the foundation for the comprehensive development of relations between Azerbaijan and China.
During his visit, Deputy Minister Elnur Mammadov also met with Nurlan Yermekbayev, the Secretary General of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, to discuss cooperation prospects between Azerbaijan and the SCO.
Furthermore, Elnur Mammadov visited the China and Globalization Center, where he met with the leadership of the organization and representatives from various think tanks. He provided comprehensive information about Azerbaijan, the current situation in the region, and Azerbaijan-China relations, and answered questions from the event participants.
