Former Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan spoke to reporters after his overthrow. He participated in festive events on the occasion of Shusha's occupation and answered questions from Armenian Public Television correspondent about 27 years ago.  He participated in festive events on the occasion of Shusha's occupation and answered questions from Armenian Public Television reporter that events happened 27 years ago.

Eurasia Diary informed citing to Virtualaz.org that Sarkisyan traditionally called "brilliant military operation prepared for Shusha's occupation ", proud of the "courage" of the Armenian commanders. But he said that the main reason for helping to capture Shusha was the political chaos and panic in Azerbaijan.

Sargsyan says that after much debate, they decided to attack Shusha in four directions. The operation was led by General Arkady Ter-Tadevosyan.

According to Sargsyan, the success of the Shusha operation was the failure of the Azerbaijani army to free Dashtali village in 1992. Though many of us were killed in these battles, the most powerful battalion of the Azerbaijani army was destroyed," Serzh said.

In a long time period, the investigation into the unsuccessful Dashtalti operation in Azerbaijan had long been under way, and the Defense Minister Tajeddin Mehdiyev, personally led the operation.

The investigation found that tactical errors in the planning of the operation, the lack of communication between the groups, the dissemination of the operative secret and the misconduct of the guards led to the collapse of the enemy units of Azerbaijan, which entered the Dashtali from the village of Nabilar. A few sections that entered into the village pulled back with  many losses.

In other words, Serzh Sargsyan confirms that one of the main reasons for Shusha's seizure was not related to the Armenians' fervor, it was related to political games, betrayal and useless military leadership on the Azerbaijani side.

Finally, Serzh spoke about the second major issue that helped them to get the Shusha. He said that in Azerbaijan at that time, it was merely the internal political turmoil and complete chaos. It has helped us a lot,he said.
