Ten people were injured in a rebel drone attack from Yemen targeting an airport in Saudi Arabia, the Saudi-led coalition said on Saturday, Yeni Safak reports.
Coalition spokesman Col. Turki al-Maliki said Houthi rebels launched an explosive-laden drone at King Abdullah Airport in the south-western city of Jazan.
He said six Saudis were among those injured in the attack, which also caused minor damage at the airport.
The coalition also said Saudi air defenses intercepted and destroyed another rebel drone targeting the airport.
There was no comment from the Houthi rebel group on the coalition’s statement.
The Houthi group, backed by Iran, regularly launches rocket and drone attacks on Saudi territories, saying they are in reaction to the Saudi-led coalition’s assault on Yemen.
Yemen has been beset by violence and chaos since 2014, when Houthis overran much of the country, including the capital Sanaa. The crisis escalated in 2015 when a Saudi-led coalition launched a devastating air campaign aimed at rolling back Houthi territorial gains.
According to the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, the conflict has claimed more than 233,000 lives.
