President of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) Mirjana Spoljaric Egger said on Monday that the "level of human suffering is intolerable" in the Gaza Strip. "It is unacceptable that civilians have no safe place to go in Gaza, and with a military siege in place there is also no adequate humanitarian response currently possible," she added.
Spoljaric Egger called for another ceasefire and an increased supply of humanitarian aid to Gaza, saying that last week's pause in fighting before Israel and Hamas "provided a small degree of humanitarian respite, a positive glimpse of humanity that raised hopes around the world that a path to reduced suffering could now be found." Meanwhile, Palestinian media reported that over 30 people, "the majority of whom were children," were killed by an Israeli strike in northern Gaza.
