The event, held at the Premier Palace Baku, brought together over 70 people, including Azerbaijani Government officials, healthcare professionals, representatives of pharmaceutical industry, tourism and hospitality sectors, journalists and people interested in Ayurveda, its philosophy and Ayurvedic treatment methods.
Mr Vinay Kumar, Charge d’Affaires of India in Baku in his welcoming address, said that Ayurveda is India’s five-thousand-year old medicine system and is gradually gaining popularity around the world: “Ayurvedic products are a natural way of healing and it has no side effects as other medicine systems have. Ayurveda emphasises on preventing illness rather than fighting and curing the illness”.
He noted that the Government of India is organising a series of nationwide and global events to commemorate “Ayurveda@2047 - Ayurveda Ka Amrit Kaal”. The theme of the 7th Ayurveda Day is “Ayurveda Everyday, Ayurveda Everywhere”.
Charge d’Affaires mentioned that with the support of the Government of India, WHO has established a Global Centre for Traditional Medicine, as a knowledge centre for traditional medicine, in Jamnagar, Gujarat, India to further explore the potential of traditional medicines.
“I am also happy to highlight here that the UNGA adopted the resolution to commemorate 2023 as the International Year of Millets. The International Year of Millets stands to provide a unique opportunity to increase global production, ensure efficient processing and consumption, promote a better utilization of crop rotations, and encourage better connectivity throughout food systems to promote millets as a key component of the food basket,” he said.
Further on, Dr. Ronald D’Mello, the owner of the Indian Hospital in Baku, gave deep insights of the benefits of Ayurveda. He said Ayurveda, despite being a 5000 years old system, has been well documented and successfully passed on to the next generations for millennia. He said Ayurveda offers holistic and time-tested medicines. Dr. D’Mello also noted that Ayurveda is not only the treatment of the body, but it is also the treatment of the soul. According to him, Ayurveda can be applied in the treatment of many diseases, such as cardiovascular ailments, diabetes and arthritis.
Well-known Yoga teacher Mr. Kanan Mammadov also gave information about Ayurveda and its benefits for human well-being. He said Ayurveda and Yoga are interrelated and spoke about the importance of following Ayurveda for Yoga practitioners.
The event also saw informative videos on Ayurveda and related topics.
