The Joint Declaration on the results of the meeting with the President of the People's Republic of China Xi Jinping at the 24th SCO summit held in Astana in July last year is a historic event and opens a new page in Azerbaijani-Chinese relations. 

According to EDnews, this was said by Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev in an interview with the Chinese Xinhua news agency.

"During my speech during the bilateral meeting with the President of the People's Republic of China Xi Jinping, I noted that the adopted Declaration turns the People's Republic of China and Azerbaijan into official strategic partners, and this is a great achievement and a great responsibility. During our meeting in Astana, I was invited to pay a state visit to China, and I accepted this invitation with pleasure. I also invited the President of the People's Republic of China to visit our country at a time convenient for him.

''I believe that such high-level exchange of visits will give additional impetus to the process of deepening our interstate relations," the head of state noted.
