Umud Mirzayev, the chairman of the International Eurasia Press Fund gave interview to Lithuanian well-known news gateway-"Alkas.lt" on 27th anniversary of 20 January. During the interview he said, 20 January is not only a tragedy in Azerbaijan history, but also people’s voice for freedom that have been in Soviet servitude for many years. It is an honor for our history that we have people who have displayed courage for their sovereignty.
On the night of 20 January 1990 , Soviet army perpetrated terrible and mass murders against civilians in Baku. One of the main purposes of committing the bloody incident was to break will of people who want to defend their legal demands and achieve freedom, independence and sovereignty through democratic means, and crush people’s dream about independence under tanks. They did not succeed in breaking our national pride by sheding blood of innocent humans and committed unprecedented crimes against our people.
Mr. Mirzayev said that, hurricane of fire against innocent people was organized by the USSR Ministry of Defense, the Ministry of Interior Special Forces and the KGB sabotage teams on the night from January 19 to 20 1990. Mikhail Gorbachev and other leaders of the Soviet Empire used "Armenian card" skillfully by claiming that Soviet troops entered Baku in order to “protect” families of military and prevent "nationalist extremists" to take control of government through aggressive means. In fact, this is an obvious hypocrisy that Soviet empire tried to make lies and slanders to veil their cruelty.
Chairman of the IEPF added that the people commemorate 27th anniversary of 20 January and remind courageous victims. Martyrs and Martyrs avenue will be source of a national pride as symbol to next generation.
