Eurasia Diary talked exclusively to Christian Karembeu, an international footballer, a special advisor at Olympiacos FC and ambassador for FIFA, UEFA and La Liga while his visit to Baku to participate at the 7th Global Forum of the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations running on April 25-27.
While expressing his first impressions about the Forum C. Karembeu said:
“It is my pleasure to have an opportunity to participate in UNAOC and talk about what sport, in particular football has given to me and its role as a tool of peace, education and inclusion. Today, we are here to help to find some solutions to the challenges that humanity faces.”
“And while we mention the humanity, we need to consider the respect to the value of being a human. As we are equal and unequal at the same time, facing discrimination and some exclusion in everyday life, the platforms like this give us chance to fight for the eradication of some discrimination, racism, sexism. For this struggle we need to include everyone. I think that we have seen an example of this in the last big games - European Games in Baku as not only the Europe was invited but the whole world, as well,”- he later added.
“For me it is a great initiative and thanks for Azerbaijan authorities to host us and give us this platform for discussion. We are here to give our testimony and our experience to show that beyond the borders we are the one in an example of the common sense that sport as opportunity to speak together, to act together, and to be as one.”
