On 25-26 October, Baku International Humanitarian Forum is being held. The Baku Forum involves high-level representatives from the European and Asian countries responsible for the implementation of the United Nations Sustainable Development Agenda, UN officials, international and local experts, civil society, as well as authorized representatives representing the public and private sectors.
Seventy-fourth President of the United Nations Economic and Social Council Inga Rhonda King delivered a speech during the 1st Plenary Session on "Education and Science in the Context of Human Capital Development", Eurasia Diary reports.
Inga Rhonda King greeted all the guests of the Baku International Humanitarian Forum and expressed her pleasure of being one of the guests at the event. She also thanked Azerbaijani government for hosting such an important Forum.
President of ECOSOC noted that the purpose of this forum is to discuss humanitarian crises which are coming out from such issues as the climate change, population growth, natural disasters, global threats, the politics, and economic shocks.
Inga Rhonda King added that more than 174 million people need humanitarian assistance and the clue for solving humanitarian problems is the protection of human life. She also noted that the main topic of the agenda is called “The New World and Humanity: Creativity and Human Development”.
"The UN recognizes Human Development as a core task. Education is not only a question for people but also a basis for the development of all fields. One of the main topics of the sustainable development agenda is the quality of education. Education is the cornerstone of the Sustainable Development Goals. Opportunities for education must be created for every person, however, 260 million children in the world cannot receive a primary education.
A lot of children are not able to get a worthy education due to the conflicts which have erupted in their countries. States should be able to create a supportive environment and an institutional structure to deal with issues that are in our collective responsibility. We must also harness all the opportunities for technical progress. We need to lift barriers between people and expand communication opportunities. With the help of high technologies, we can improve fields such as education and healthcare. We need to convey to the people how science and technology are important in human development. Our creative capital today is a major investment. This capital allows us to play a key role in solving our problems. We all share this responsibility by working together", Inga Rhonda King said in her speech.
