The Russian Foreign Ministry said Tuesday that Moscow will continue to support its Central Asian allies financially and militarily to strengthen its influence in the region.
The ministry held a meeting of the board chaired by Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov on Tuesday on the theme "Ensuring the interests of Russia in Central Asia."
Russia will continue to render significant assistance to the sustainable development of partner countries in Central Asia, the statement said, adding that the total amount of funds allocated for these purposes over the past 10 years has exceeded 6 billion U.S. dollars.
"No less significant is the contribution to the strengthening of the defense capability and anti-crisis potential of our allies. All commitments made in this area will be fulfilled on time and in full," the ministry said in a statement.
The participants of the meeting also discussed measures to neutralize risks and threats emanating from those "who are pursuing an openly unfriendly course towards weakening Russia's traditionally close relations with Central Asian countries."
