For more than 25 years, Azerbaijan and NATO have been conducting a meaningful dialogue on ensuring peace and security in the Euro-Atlantic region, Report informs citing the article by Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov, published in the official magazine of the Foreign Ministry on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of Azerbaijan’s accession to the Partnership for Peace alliance program.
"This year we are celebrating the 25th anniversary of Azerbaijan’s accession to the Partnership for Peace (PFP) program. Azerbaijan positively assesses NATO's role in maintaining international peace and security, including through partnership with non-member states. In this respect we highly appreciate the Program as an effort to strengthen security in the Euro-Atlantic region through joint actions. For more than 25 years, Azerbaijan and NATO have engaged in a meaningful dialogue in the field of peace and security in the Euro-Atlantic region. NATO's support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Azerbaijan is very important," the article says.
It is also noted that today the partnership between Azerbaijan and NATO goes beyond the traditional military sphere and includes a wide range of issues of reforms in security sector, civil emergency planning, science and environment, humanitarian demining, the agenda of "Women, Peace and Security" among many other matters.
"Partnership between Azerbaijan and NATO is a promising direction for future progress. New emerging problems require further development of this partnership. Azerbaijan is determined to continue cooperation with NATO towards creating effective security in the Euro-Atlantic region that fully meets the security interests of all states in accordance with the principles and objectives of the UN Charter and the Partnership for Peace Framework Document,” the article reads.
