United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterras expressed concern over the escalations of tention, conflicts and strong authoritarianism are the world, and called countries dragged in conflict to dialogue and peace.
Eurasia Diary reports citing NHK and Fox News that Secreatary-General Antonio Guterras told reporters that geopolitical tensions are “at their highest level this century."
While he was speaking to media, he appeared, saying: “The New Year has begun with our world in turmoil and we are living in dangerous times."
According to NHK news, Guterras'message is directed expecially to the rencent tensions between the United States and Iran following the killing of Iran Top General Qasem Soleimani in the US drone strike. He said, “this cauldron of tensions is leading more and more countries to take unpredicted decisions with unpredictable consequences and a profound risk of miscalculation.”
Guterras also added that trade and technological conflicts that fracture world markets, undermine growth and widen inequalities.
Secretary General said he tries to keep constant contact with official leaders around the world as he follows the recent rise in global tensions with great concern.

In addition to sending message to the recenet tension between the US and Iran, Guterras also talked about the current situation in Africa and stressed necessity for struggeling with the expansion of terrorism in the continent.
Fox News informs that the secretary-general warned in November that terrorist groups have strengthened their foothold across Africa’s Sahel region, which is experiencing escalating violence. He said the expanding foothold “is making large swaths of territory unstable and stoking ethnic violence, especially in Burkina Faso and Mali,”
“We see increased social unrest and growing extremism, nationalism and radicalization, with a dangerous advance of terrorism in several areas of the world, notably in Africa,” he said.
“Let us not forget the terrible human suffering caused by war. As always, ordinary people pay the highest price. It is our common duty to avoid it,” Guterras added at the end.
