Tatul Akopyan: Karabakh Diary; "Green and Black or Neither War nor Peace"
It is being discussed both in Russia and Azerbaijan about deprivation of Mikhail Gorbachev from Nobel Prize for reunifying Germany. However Gorbachev was the preson who destroyed the Soviet Union that first started in Upper-Garabagh. Gorbachev allowed Armenian delegation to deceive him by showing his faith in many of their stories, and then deceived Azerbaijanis by allowing Armenians to seize Garabagh. Therefore, Gorbachev must be deprived from holding the Nobel Prize.
Details of how Gorbachev was misled by Armenians who came to Moscow for this are described in his book "Green and Black or Niether War nor Peace."
Eurasia Diary presents a chapter for readers' attention:
The participation of intellectuals in the Garabagh movement was crucial: Zori Balayan, Silva Kaputikyan, Suren Jeremiah, Lendruis Khurshudyan, Mary Kochar, Vladimir Barkhudaryan, Armen Hovannisyan, Henrik Iguityan, Rafael Khazarian, Lenser Agalovyan, Bachat Ulubabyan, Vauchrat Ganna and so on.
Igor Muradyan wrote: “Zori Balayan had a particular role in the movement. First, his active participation “legitimized” his efforts by empowering other participants and the Movement as a whole. His reputation and broad connections allowed him to solve difficult organizational issues and open the doors of academies and educational institutions to him”.
Muradyan noted that "many people in Yerevan considered Balayan an adventurist." He had the special ability to present ordinary events as historical events. Even in this literate class, I was impressed. He was able to present the unimportant persons as "the owners of great historical acts."
Silva Kaputikyan played an important role in strengthening the movement.
In Moscow, they realised that in order to calm the 100,000 people in the square, it was necessary to start a dialogue with people who were close to them. Every day, the Armenian leadership lost its authority in the eyes of the people and the Kremlin.
Faddey Sargsyan writes: “Balayan and Kaputikyan were highly respected by the people and it was more advisable for Gorbachev to speak to them. Gorbachev could speak to the people through Balayan and Kaputikyan. ”
Vladimir Movsesyan commented: "We couldn't meet the direct demands of the people, so the support of the people was rooted in the truth. The leaders of the movement were not strong enough to win hundreds of thousands of people. The idea was strong."
Neither the Political Bureau's decision to condemn the Karabakh movement nor the activities of the Kremlin delegations in Yerevan, Baku and Stepanakert could alleviate the situation. What to do?
Karen Brutents recalls: “Gorbachev was not indifferent to the position of the Armenians of Karabakh, but he did not see a way out of the situation. "I will agree with every decision made by the Azerbaijanis and Armenians," he said in his private conversation.
On February 15, 1988, a commission was established in the Armenian Writers' Union. This included Gracia Ovanisyan, chairman of the union, Sero Khanzadyan, Zori Balayan, Vardes Petrosyan, and Silva Kaputikyan. It was decided to send a telegram to Gorbachev.
“It was necessary to describe the whole history of the NKDR, the situation is absurd in 2-3 pages. It was necessary to open the 70-year-old knot. They wrote and sent, ”writes poet Silva Kaputikyan.
On February 26, Gorbachev received Zori Balayan and Silva Kapuktikyan in the Kremlin. Later participants of the meeting wrote about this meeting in their books and memories, but with different interpretations.
