The existing constitutional crisis in Armenia is observed also by international organizations, a member of the ruling parliamentary bloc said today, calling for rapid efforts to resolve the situation, Eurasia Diary reports citing Tert.am
Vahagn Hovhakimyan, who is the main co-rapporteur on the bill proposing changes to the basic law, said they prefer to spend extra means to step up the reforms rather than to slow down the process "to the country's disadvantage."
His remark came in response to Hrant Ayvazyan of the Prosperous Armenia faction who sought explanations to the proposed referendum plan "instead of focusing on more fundamental changes″.
″The constitutional reforms you mention are rather time-consuming indeed, so if we remain at a standstill today, it will amount to inaction. It is therefore not permissible at all to linger with the wait-and-see approach, seeing that the situation is sustaining a real blow and causing damages to the country. I don't think we have the right today to let just a couple of people inflict damage on Armenia with the resources they possess. Therefore the people's money must be spent to establish the government of the people. You cannot possibly name a more cost-effective way to ensure the proper exercise of the people's right, because that money is going to be spent for that very purpose,″said the member of My Step faction.
