The Yerevan court of general jurisdiction postponed examination of the petition to arrest leader of Prosperous Armenia Party Gagik Tsarukyan, EDNews.net reports citing News.am.
“My clients have just been engaged in the criminal case. I asked for time to become familiar with the case materials. The trial will continue tomorrow at 4:30 p.m. We’ll answer questions after tomorrow’s trial, according to the situation,” attorney Yerem Sargsyan said.
Gagik Tsarukyan exited the court after the trial and left without answering journalists’ questions.
The trial was held behind closed doors.
Gagik Tsarukyan is charged with giving electoral bribes, yet he doesn’t accept the charge and views the case as a phony case.
On June 16, the National Assembly approved the two petitions of Prosecutor General of Armenia Artur Davtyan to strip Gagik Tsarukyan of parliamentary immunity and deprive him of his liberty.
The Prosperous Armenia Party and the Bright Armenia Party didn’t participate in the vote.
The two petitions were approved by 87 deputies of the My Step faction.
