On August 12th, 2020, members of the Honorable Chamber of Deputies, National Congress of the Republic of Paraguay, Mrs. Dr. Esmérita Sánchez de Da Silva and Mr. Walter Harms (Chairman of the Committee on Foreign Relations, Honorable Chamber of Deputies), presented to the plenary session a declaration and resolution that strongly condemns the armed attacks committed by the Armed Forces of the Republic of Armenia against the civilian population of Azerbaijan and against the sovereign territory of Azerbaijan; military operations committed by Armenia on July 12 – 16, 2020.
It must be noted that this official declaration was initially approved by the Committee on Foreign Affairs, and by the Committee of Petitions, Separation of powers, Rules and Editing. This successful legislation approved for the defense of territorial sovereignty of Azerbaijan and openly denouncing the crimes against humanity in the Caucasus committed by the fascist government of Armenia, is the result of a fruitful cooperation between Mr. Peter M. Tase, an American Journalist and expert of Azerbaijani Studies (who is also the Founding Chair of the Azerbaijan – Paraguay Chamber of Industry, Commerce and Tourism in Asuncion), close cooperation and guidance of the Honorable Mr. Umud Rahim oglu Mirzayev and the branch offices of The International Eurasia Press Fund (IEPF) in Paraguay and the two largest political parties in the Republic of Paraguay.
The Director of Human Rights Committee in the Honorable Chamber of Deputies, Mr. César Nicolás Benítez Saguier, has shown a great level of leadership and expertise in expediting the legislative process of this historic resolution that defends the Republic of Azerbaijan and ensures economic prosperity of the Autonomous Republic of Nakhchivan – Azerbaijan.
Furthermore, the unanimous support provided by the entire body of Members in the Honorable Chamber of Deputies, National Congress of Paraguay; is historic and genuine testimony of the brotherly relations that exist between these two nations. Just like Azerbaijan, Paraguay has suffered from the largest holocaust in the Western Hemisphere during the War against the Triple Alliance in 1864-1870, when Paraguay was fighting alone against the Troops of Argentina, Brazil, and Uruguay at the same time. At this time only the Republic of Colombia offered political support to the Government of Paraguay and was keen to provide Colombian Passports to all Paraguayan Citizens leaving their country due to this bloody war and the horrible destruction and plundering affecting every Paraguayan family. In the field of Bilateral Commercial Cooperation, the Republic of Azerbaijan has strengthened the presence in the markets of MERCOSUR and Paraguay; while in the cultural sphere, the Center of Azerbaijani Culture and History will be inaugurated very soon in Asuncion. Currently, there are over a dozen Azerbaijani companies that are interested to export their agricultural and food products into the Paraguayan Market, therefore entering for the first time in the MERCOSUR region with their high-quality products.
