On October 4, Armenian Armed Forces launched missile attacks to the residential settlements in Ganja, the second biggest city of Azerbaijan, with more than 500 thousand inhabitants in violation of international law and the Geneva Convention of the United Nations. A result of shelling the city, one died and another thirty two wounded. The inhuman and furious acts by Armenian side targeting innocent civilians and their properties mean threat to peace and stability in not only Azerbaijan as well in all South Caucasus. In addition to Ganja, nowadays Armenian terrorist forces have fired the settlement areas in other cities and regions with artillery close to the front line.
A number of foreign experts in their comments to Eurasia Diary condemned Armenian aggression and called on the international community to stand with Azerbaijan.
British journalist Neil Watson said that the bombing of the city was a direct act of aggression by Armenia, who intended to kill innocent civilians.
“I was absolutely disgusted to hear that Armenian cluster bombs had been unleashed on Ganja, the former capital of Azerbaijan, this morning. This is home to 500 thousand civilians, the second largest city, and it is my understanding that at least one civilian has been reported dead,” Watson said.
“This was a direct act of aggression by Russian-supported Armenia, intended to kill the Azerbaijani population and destroy historical areas in the city,” he added.
“It is clearly an attempt to provoke Azerbaijani reprisals on civilian targets, particularly in Armenia proper and then achieve a Russian intervention,” said French historian, Maxime Gauin.
Gauin considered that Yerevan has lost any hope to win without a much stronger Russian support; therefore it tries to generate provocations to involve major powers in the conflict as like tactic of the Armenian nationalists during the 1890s.
The government of Azerbaijan can understand what kind of unsophisticated entrapment Yerevan has prepared,” he said.
Irish historian Patrick Walsh also stressed that Armenia is following tricky policy to engage Russia in war.
According to him, Armenia cannot bear his responsibility for being defeated by Azerbaijan Armed Forces.
“Armenia is losing heavily on the battlefield. It is now trying to widen the war by firing missiles at Azerbaijani population centres, well outside the war zone. This anti-civilian attack is designed to get Azeri or Turkish retaliation against Armenia and draw in Russia. The war is about Karabakh and the occupied territory, not Armenia, despite its reckless behaviour,” Patrick noted.
The Irish historian called Azerbaijani population to be strong and continue to fight against aggressor Armenia.
“Please stand firm and let the world know of Armenian war crimes. Do not sink to the level of the Armenian fascists. Defeat them man to man. You are a better people than them. Please don’t forget it,” he added.
Furthermore, Qaiser Nawab, who is a leader of Pakistani Youth, expressed his opinion on the recent Armenian aggression.
“The attack on Ganja, the second biggest city of Azerbaijan by Armenian leadership, is a brutal act. I think that the international community should condemn Armenian aggression and stand with Azerbaijan,” Nawab stressed.
He said that Pakistan supports the Azerbaijan army and stands with Azerbaijan in war with the illegal Armenian forces in Nagorno-Karabakh.
“I believe that the UN Security Council and other relevant organizations should condemn Armenian aggression and support the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan,” he added.
It should be noted that since September 27 Azerbaijan Armed Forces have launched counter-offensive military operations along the line of front in retaliation to the attacks by Armenian army. According to sources belonging to the Defence Ministry of Azerbaijan, Azerbaijani Military Units have managed to liberate a dozens of areas from Armenian occupation while Armenian forces have faced greatest losses.
