Germany is interested in discussing the implementation of the Nord Stream 2 pipeline project with the new US administration, Germany’s Foreign Minister Heiko Maas told reporters on Friday, Eurasia Diary reports citing TASS.
"Certainly, we are highly interested in discussing the topic of the Nord Stream 2 with the new administration in Washington," the minister said. US authorities when taking the decision on sanctions against the project in December indicated that they would hold "consultations at a governmental level" prior to introducing new restrictions, Maas said.
"We believe this is a positive decision," the minister noted.
The Nord Stream 2 project envisages the construction of two pipeline strings with a total capacity of 55 bln cubic meters per year from the coast of Russia through the Baltic Sea to Germany. To date, 94% of Nord Stream 2 has been finished.
