Here it is worth mentioning that Pakistan supported Azerbaijan during the second Karabakh War. Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa visited in June 2021 and had meetings with President Ilham Aliyev and Defence Minister Colonel General Hasanov Zakir Asgar in Baku.
Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee Gen Nadeem Raza visited in March 2021 and had discussions with President Ilham Aliyev and military leadership of Azerbaijan. Director General of FWO, Kamal Azfar visited in Jan 2021 to share what FWO can do in reconstruction activities. Most recently the officials of Pakistani National Logistics Cell visited Baku to oversee the preparations of transportation of first ever trade goods in the history of bilateral relations by road through Iran and Turkey. This was a pilot project that was completed successfully.
President Ilham Aliyev, Defence Minister Zakir and other high level officials including the lady speaker of the Parliament have visited Pakistan. Speaker Asad Qaiser in reciprocation led a parliamentary delegation to Azerbaijan and visited liberated territories.
Azerbaijan is interested in purchasing JF-17 and Super Mushaq military air crafts. Both countries enjoy very close cordial relations in political, parliamentary and defence sectors but the level of trade and economic cooperation is very low inspite of all possible efforts done from both sides. Reason is clear that there is no direct connectivity between the two countries. The officials from both sides stated many times that the direct flights are being started very soon but no development so far in this regard. Both countries are very near to each other but with no direct approach.
