Is Armenia preparing for a new war? - IEPF President Umud Mirzayev Weighs In

Politics 13:00 02.04.2024

Tensions escalate as reports emerge of heightened military activity along the Armenian-Azerbaijani conventional border, raising questions about Armenia's intentions and the potential for renewed conflict in the region.

In recent days, observers have noted a significant concentration of Armenian armed forces, armored vehicles, artillery installations, and heavy weaponry across various sectors of the border. This uptick in military presence has fueled speculation about Armenia's motives and its readiness for potential hostilities.

Umud Mirzayev, President of the International Eurasia Press Fund, shared his insights with Ednews, shedding light on the concerning developments. Mirzayev cautioned against interpreting the military buildup as a mere preparation for war, suggesting that separatist forces within Armenia have long harbored ambitions of destabilizing the region.

According to U. Mirzayev, the separatist agenda has historically been driven by clear objectives, often employing diplomatic maneuvers, bribery, and betrayal to advance their cause. The current gathering of armed forces along the border, he asserts, is part of a broader strategy to exert pressure on Azerbaijan and facilitate the return of Armenians to territories such as Khankendi.

However, Mr. Mirzayev believes that the residents of Khankendi are not swayed by the separatist rhetoric, recognizing that their future lies beyond the borders of the disputed region. He warns against the resettlement of Armenians in Karabakh and Khankendi, likening it to the placement of volatile elements that could further destabilize the fragile peace in the area.

As tensions simmer and the specter of conflict looms, Mr. Mirzayev's comments underscore the urgency of diplomatic efforts to de-escalate the situation and prevent a descent into violence. The international community closely monitors the evolving dynamics in the region, mindful of the potential ramifications for regional stability and peace.
