Pierre D'argent, professor of international law at the International Court of Justice, made groundless claims on the part of Armenia on the last day of hearings.
Ednews reports that Pierre D'argent said in the context of prisoners of war at the hearing held in The Hague today:
"Armenia in this case is not claiming that Azerbaijan held prisoners of war and it's not complaining about that. Armenia is complaining about is that Azerbaijan did not take prisoners of war when it should have. Instead, its armed forces shot poor ethnic Armenian combatants down like dogs, outside of combat. After taking them prisoners, Azerbaijan mistreated them during their detention or made them disappear again long after the active phase of hostilities. Armenia contents that at this stage of proceedings given the specific nature of this bitter ethnic conflict, given the hate speech spread at all levels of par and in Azerbaijan’s society, and given all the specific evidence provided in his memorial and recalled by my colleagues that these claims as Armenia suggests indeed likely to constitute breaches of the convention irrespective whether these facts also be unlawful on another ground."
As if making baseless claims is not enough, the lawyer who refers to the convention of the International Court of Justice completely ignores the obvious evidence. All these persons detained by the State Security Service, as reported by the agency, were accused of creating illegal armed groups in the territory of Karabakh, organizing their activities, and illegally crossing the state border of the Republic of Azerbaijan. The lawyer, who said that the case of arrest "outside of the war" should be registered, forgot that after the 44-day war, the so-called regime continued its activities until anti-terrorist measures. Those events were held in the territory of Azerbaijan recognized by international law and also by the Republic of Armenia. This means that every illegality recorded on the borders of Azerbaijan is taken seriously by the relevant institution. In addition, it is worth noting that criminals such as Arayik Harutyunyan and Ruben Vardanyan, who are kept in detention centers, are provided with all the facilities in their places of detention.
