On May 21, a phone conversation took place between Minister of Foreign Affairs of Republic of Azerbaijan Jeyhun Bayramov and Ali Bagheri, who exercises the duties of Foreign Minister of Iran, Ednews reports citing Azerbaijani MFA.

Minister Jeyhun Bayramov noted that Azerbaijani people are deeply saddened by the death of the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and other officials as a result of a tragic helicopter accident and offered his condolences to the families of the deceased and to the people of Iran.

The Minister emphasized that sincere and professional contacts were established with the late Minister of Foreign Affairs Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, and the meetings helped to develop relations between the two states and to resolve issues with differences of opinion.

During the phone call, it was noted that the meeting which was held at the border between the leaders of the two countries (Azerbaijan and Iran – ed.) is of historical significance, and the importance of launching strategic projects and continuing joint efforts for the realization of plans in the fields of transport, economy, and energy was noted. It was brought to attention that measures are ongoing to restore the work of the Embassy of Azerbaijan in Iran.

The parties said that the implementation of the agreements reached during the meeting between the Presidents of Azerbaijan and Iran served to further deepen the relations of both states.

 
The acting Minister of Foreign Affairs of Iran Ali Bagheri Kani stated that President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev visiting the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in the country to offer his condolences over the tragic death of Seyyed Ebrahim Raisi, President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian, and other accompanying individuals in a helicopter crash, sending a letter of condolence, as well as the sending of condolence letters by the foreign minister and other officials of Azerbaijan is a sign of high respect and expressed his deep gratitude for that.

During the phone call, opinions were also exchanged on other issues of mutual interest.
