In an exclusive interview with Ednews, Rizvan Huseynov, Director of the Caucasian History Center, offered perspectives on recent assassination attempts targeting leaders from Slovakia, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Hungary, and Iran, linking them to the broader context of transit routes from India and Iran to Europe.
"The assassination attempts against various leaders are interconnected, reflecting the struggle for alternative transit lines spanning from India and Iran to Europe," stated Huseynov.
He continued, "These events may prompt shifts in Iran's relationships with Turkey, Azerbaijan, and other Turkish states, potentially impacting transit projects. However, it's uncertain whether substantial changes will materialize."
Contrary to potential disruptions, Huseynov suggested that such events could spur Iranian authorities to redouble efforts in promoting transit initiatives. He highlighted recent challenges in southeastern countries, noting their resolution following a successful visit by the Slavic Prime Minister to Azerbaijan, which unfortunately culminated in an assassination attempt and the Prime Minister's serious injury. Similar incidents targeted Saudi Prince Salman and Hungarian President Orban, illustrating a broader geopolitical struggle encompassing regions from the Persian Gulf to the Baltic countries via the Black Sea and the Balkans.
Huseynov emphasized the importance of Ibrahim Raisi's visit in bolstering support for transit projects, expressing hope for continued collaboration with Azerbaijan.
As tensions and dynamics evolve, Huseynov's insights offer valuable perspectives on the complexities surrounding transit initiatives and regional geopolitics.
