Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez (pictured right) announced on Monday that his country will grant €1.13 billion to Ukraine this year to be used for weapons under a security agreement signed with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky (pictured left). According to the terms of the agreement, Spain will provide around €5 billion in funding for Ukraine until 2027, Ednews reports.
In a joint press conference with the Ukrainian head of state in Madrid, Sanchez said that the agreement will boost Ukrainian security and defense, adding that Spain will help the war-torn country "as long as necessary."
Meanwhile, Zelensky labeled Spain as a "reliable partner" that "does not turn a blind eye" to Russian aggression and thanked Madrid for its help.
