Renowned Spanish Photographer Qervasio Sançez Fernandez Visits Colombia
Qervasio Sançez Fernandez, a globally acclaimed Spanish photographer, is currently on a visit to Colombia, where he shared insights with Ednews about his ongoing mission.
"I was sent to Colombia 20 years ago to learn about the story of Monika Paola Ardilla, a young woman who became a mine victim," said Fernandez. "Monika Paola Ardilla was born on December 19, 1995, in Bolivar, a southern municipality of San Pablo. The accident occurred on February 20, 2003, when she was just 7 years old, resulting in the loss of her sight and severe injuries to one of her hands."
Fernandez continued, "Now at the age of 28, she has recently welcomed a son, marking a new chapter in her life. I first met her when she was 8 years old, and since then, I have been following her story. Monika's journey is integral to my work in Colombia."
Earlier last month, Qervasio Sançez Fernandez visited Azerbaijan, where he documented the aftermath of the conflict, including meetings with mine victims. His travels took him through liberated territories such as Aghdam, Tartar, Goranboy, Fuzuli, Shusha, Lachin, and Zangilan. During these visits, he conducted personal interviews with over 20 mine victims, gaining insights into their lives. Fernandez also explored the reconstruction efforts in these areas and engaged with the International Eurasia Media Fund's mine clearing team.
It is noteworthy that Fernandez's photographs portray the dual facets of war in a monochrome style.
